Jer vs. The Water Hazard

Jer went into the water hazard on Blueberry Hill #13. Its a decent sized file so I would say start it going and watch the whole thing once it is finished loading.

Enjoy!

Highbridge Action Shots…

I tried using the continuous shot feature on my camera to capture some of the action at Highbridge.

Highbridge Disc Golf 2007

For the second annual disc golf trip to Highbridge Hills Sports Complex we added two new players, Ben and Matt, in addition to the original crew from last year: Jim, Josh, Jer, and I!!

The trip up to Highbridge was uneventful but as we got closer to our destination everyone started getting all hyper excited about the awesome disc golf that was soon to happen. Ben was unusually hyper but I think thats normal for the Young Champion. Josh created an awesome program with a bio, pics, disc inventory, and stats for everyone on the trip.

We were able to get the same camp site as last year. Jim’s shoes were still in the tree… and if its possible they look cleaner than before. We had a few campers in the same general area but no drunken neighbors. Don’t get me wrong drunken camping neighbors can be funny and entertaining for a while but it gets obnoxious at 3:45am and you want to get up early to play some disc.

Since we arrived after the 2007 Pro Worlds the pin positions and courses were still setup the same. I would have to say Blueberry Hill was my favorite. Woodland Bear, the hybrid course setup for the Worlds was interesting but I could have gone without playing that one. Granite Ridge was the scene of our skins tournament on Saturday. Josh ended up winning both of the Closest To PIn holes. I was able to take the Ace/Aparatus pool. ( i hit the pole on a 300ft drive on Granite Ridge.) I dont have the score card but I think Jer took first place, Josh second, and I mopped up with third for the skins tourney.

Correction: Josh took first in the skins tourney, I placed second and Jer took third.

One of the most memorable events of the trip is Jer going into the pond on Blueberry Hill with is new Star Wraith. He could see the disk in the pond but when he got in the water was deceptively deep. I took almost 15 minutes of mucking around to find the prized disc. I have some of it on video and will be adding it to the the Gallery soon.

Playing disc at night was a very different experience. We played the Chestnut Grove course before dark to get a feel for it and then later that night played it in the dark. The course is partially lit by street lights and by those little solar yard lights. The little lights we taped to the bottom of the discs were mesmerizing. A funny thing happened in the dark… we all played much better!! Im thinking that with nothing much to look at except the basket, your focus is sharpened… no distractions.

In all we played 120+ holes of disc golf. We did play a few select holes from Highbridge Gold but not the whole course.

It was an awesome trip again and I cant wait to go … again!!!!

The First One

Tomorrow is the day.

My first ever disc golf tournament. I’ve played in skins tournaments with friends but nothing official like this event.

I will be playing in the MFA Oakwood Open which will be held at the Oakwood disc golf course in Cottage Grove, MN.

I am going to enter the Intermediate division and see how I do. Im a bit nervous. The last and first time I played the Oakwood course I was playing horribly but then it was raining and I had been having an off week. Not a round I want to remember at any rate. My plan is to play in a few more tourneys this year and then join the PDGA amateur division next year.

While my game has really improved this year I still have things that need work. My release point has been a bit troublesome since I switched over to a backhand style of throwing this year. At times I can place the plastic exactly where I want it, and other times the disc has a mind of its own… an unerring laser beam tree finding mind of its own.

Wish me luck!
