…that when you are watching the Opening Ceremony for the Olympics your washing machine will start spewing water all over the floor of your 4th floor apartment.

I’m watching the Opening Ceremony for the Olympics tonight and decided to throw a load of laundry into the washing machine. As the Olympic athletes were entering the stadium I heard what seemed like the familiar sound of my washing machine draining the water from the last cycle. However it was unusually LOUD and SPLASHY.

That immediately snapped me out of my quasi-nap state and I was off the couch in a flash. To my horror there was already quite a bit of water on the floor. I realized right away that being a super hero at this particular moment could possibly come in handy. Knowing full well that I am not actually a super hero with super speed, or mega water absorbing powers I quickly shut off the washer and ran to get the fresh load of towels I had just put away. That wasn’t enough. Not near enough. I grabbed a few other towels and clothes I was going to wash next and threw some of them behind the washer, which was still gushing water.

My supply of water absorbing material was almost gone when I remembered something. Sitting by my front door waiting to go to the Good Will were several bags of dry clothes!! I ripped the bags open posthaste and put them to use soaking up the water that was pooled behind the washer. Hopefully not much water seeped into the floor and from there to the neighbors ceiling and wall. That washer holds an amazing amount of water.

Finally, I was albe to mop up the last bits of water and pull the washer completely out of the closet and clean up behind it. I think thats the quickest I have moved in quite a while. I have been thinking that I need to get a new washer/dryer at some point but I wasn’t planning on replacing them so soon.Now that I think about it I’m glad that I didn’t start the washer and leave the house! I’ve started looking at Sears and Home Depot to see what the cheapest washer and dryer will cost me. I have had my washer and dryer since I moved in about 4 years ago and even then they were old pieces of junk.
